Read-Only Memory, ROM is a storage thing that is used with computers and other electronic devices. This type of memory chip holds information that can be read but NOT written.

When the power is lost or turned off ROM will keep the information stored on it. ROM is mainly used in a starting up the process in a computer. (RAM is used AFTER starting up and loading the operating system) ROM is mostly used for firmware updates.
Why We Need ROM ?
Because data is fully incorporated at the ROM chip's manufacture .if a mistake is made in manufacture, a ROM chip becomes unusable. The most expensive stage of ROM manufacture, therefore, is creating the template.
Where is the ROM on a computer?
For the computer the main EEPROM and BIOS is on the computer motherboard.
ROM is non-volatile, which means it keeps its contents regardless of whether or not it has power.
